If you’ve been reading this blog for awhile and/or know me personally, then you’re aware of how much I love online shopping. I shop online for myself, my kids, birthday presents, and for almost all of Christmas. I know some people get stressed about ordering things online or have maybe had a bad experience so I’m excited to share some online shopping tips + tricks!
READ REVIEWS
This one may seem obvious, but it is also SO important when shopping online! Specifically, you’ll always want to read reviews if something is really inexpensive (did people say the quality was good or was the quality crap), when something is very expensive (if you’re going to spend a lot of money, you should make sure the reviews live up to the price tag), if the retailer will charge you to ship it back (most of them won’t, however). Also, I try to always read reviews on jeans or when ordering toys for my kids. Actually, who am I kidding. I read reviews on evvvvverything.
— — USE COUPON CODES STRATEGICALLY
If the retailer allows you to use more than one coupon code, you want to be sure to use the codes in the correct order to ensure you’re receiving the most savings. For example: If you have a 30% off coupon and a $10 off coupon, you would want to use the 30% off FIRST, on the full price of the items, and then add the $10 off. Note: You can search online for coupon codes or on sites such as: retailmenot.com, couponcraze.com and couponmom.com.
SIGN UP FOR EMAIL ALERTS
Flooding your inbox with retailer alerts can be a nuisance so I only suggest doing this with retailers that you shop from frequently and/or create a folder in your inbox where you can put them. However, retailers send sales and coupon codes to their subscribers ALL the time so this is great way to get extra savings.
GET FREE SHIPPING
It’s almost frowned upon to charge shipping nowadays, which stinks because, being a shop owner myself, I know how expensive that shipping actually is, but, nonetheless, we ALL want FREE shipping! And, honestly, even if I get the best deal ever on an item, but the retailer tries to charge me some crazy shipping cost, I will end up not ordering the item at all. Some of my favorite free shipping retailers include: Amazon Prime and Zappos (both of these offer free two day shipping, it’s THE best!) and Nordstrom.
LEAVE ITEMS IN YOUR CART
This only works for some retailers (to name a few: JC Penny, Macy’s, Dicks Sporting Goods, and Bed Bath & Beyond) and you have to be logged into your account with their site for this to work, but if you place something in your cart and leave it there for a few days, they will typically send you a coupon for that item. They want that sale and are willing to discount it to entice you to make your purchase.
IN-STORE PICK UP
If you like the convenience of shopping from your computer, but have bad luck with sizes, I suggest placing your order for in-store pick up. Besides the fact that it waves your shipping charge, this allows you to try on your items and adjust sizes or make returns quickly. And, if you place your orders before Noon, most retailers will have your purchases ready for pick up the same day!
