My daughter, Remi, turns two (I still can’t believe it) on Tuesday and we had her family birthday party yesterday. She is our little monkey so, as you can see, that’s the theme we chose for her party. I had such a great time with this because it fits her personality perfectly. She is the master of climbing and is as active as can be. She started walking at 9 months and was climbing out of her crib at 15 months. She really has been our little monkey since birth.

Remi, at this age, is nothing like I expected her to be. I just knew she’d be as girly and sensitive and affectionate as they come. We would play dolls and I would braid her hair and paint her nails, all things girly. However, that’s not my Remi. She would much rather play in the dirt with her brother than push a stroller. She is spunky, tough as nails and fiercely independent. I don’t know what the next phase of life looks like for her, but I know she has such a bright future. She is a leader and is unafraid; I know I’m going to learn so much from her (patience, for sure. Ha!). She is unique and perfect in every way and I’m so thankful that she is ours.

I’m getting emotional writing this because it’s a reminder that the time goes by so fast. With her being our second child, I feel like it’s gone by at lightening speed. I often feel like I can’t remember her as an infant or some of her precious milestones. Life just seems like a blur and that makes me sad. I wish I could rewind the time and soak in those moments before the walking, talking, running, and playing began. You know, those quiet and cuddly moments when your precious tiny newborn is so dependent on you. They need you for every single thing.  That phase of life just rushed by and, in the moment, I couldn’t wait for her sit up and then crawl and then sleep through the night, but once that irreplaceable mommy and infant bond is gone, I desperately want it back. I love my toddlers and am extremely proud of all that they can accomplish on their own, but I often miss my infant babies. Two may seem like a very young age, but, for me, two seems like ten. Too old, too fast.

Remi Two

She only kept her birthday dress on for a minute before playing on her water slide with all of her cousins. She had such a great day! She may not act (or sit) like a lady at the moment, but she’ll kill you with cuteness. And, yes, she clearly looooves cupcake icing. I love this sweet, spunky girl!
