Purchasing Over the Knee Boots

I’m excited to be sharing six different over the knee boot outfit options in todays recap post.  In all of these outfits, I’m wearing the same grey suede over the knee boots, but, honestly, all of these outfits can be duplicated with brown or black over the knee boots.  I’ve said it before, and I truly mean it, I’ve never seen this style of boot look bad on anyone!  It’s the one item that I always encourage people to try.  I purchased my first pair of over the knee boots five years ago and I still wear that same pair to this day.  So, if you’re someone who feels like “OTK boots just aren’t for me”, I’m rounding up some outfit ideas today to hopefully encourage you to at least go try on a pair.  They are slimming and seem to make legs look much longer…and who doesn’t like that?  I’m also sharing some shopping + sizing tips below.

Another suuuuper great thing about over the knee boots is wearing them with leggings.  I don’t usually start wearing leggings with boots until it’s a little bit cooler, but it looks like those temps are well on their way.  Oversized sweater + leggings + over the knee boots….it’s a winner every time!

A quick tip for when you’re trying to order boots online is to be sure you’re reading the calf circumference.  Some styles are made for muscular calves and some for slender calves and that makes all the difference in the way they look and feel.  Just like you want boots to fit your feet, you also want them to fit your legs.  I’ve had people tell me that they can’t wear this style of boot because they won’t fit their calves, but, truthfully, they just haven’t tried on a boot that is made for their leg type.  Trust me, there are SO many styles and shaft circumferences, you just have to be sure you’re looking at those measurements when deciding what boot to order.  There are also certain materials that are made to stretch and form to your leg such as this pair.  You’ll see it says in the details: stretches to fit wide calf.  Or this pair that comes in 8 colors and offers a regular calf option and a wide calf option.  The first time I ever ordered a pair, I literally measured my calf because I wasn’t sure.  That measurement sure has come in handy because now I always know what to look for.  So, if you have a tape measure handy, whip that thing out and jot down your size.  You can then go to Nordstrom online and put over the knee boots in the search box and it will allow you to filter what size circumference you’re looking for.  It makes shopping SO much easier and more efficient.  I hope this helps!
